Subject
Music is learned by listening, playing and asking how it was made. These trips take students into concert halls, conservatories, instrument workshops and composers' homes to study how a place shaped its sound. Students attend live performances, join workshops with working musicians and teachers, and leave with a deeper ear for how history, craft and culture become music.
On the trip
Vienna, Salzburg, Leipzig and Berlin, the cities where Mozart and Bach worked.
La Scala in Milan, Stradivari's Cremona, Vivaldi's Venice and Florence, where opera began.
Prague and Brno, where Dvořák, Smetana and Janáček built music from folk melody and Czech speech.
Flamenco in Andalusia, and the jazz and choirs that carried South Africa's history.
