About ReadTrips

We open doors to where learning happens

ReadTrips designs learning trips that connect Kenyan students to the experts, institutions and industries behind what they study. The places students visit become living classrooms, supporting curiosity, critical thinking and clear pathways into careers and university.

Behind the scenes

Our founder

Humphrey Mumita, founder of ReadTrips
Humphrey Mumita, Architect and Founder

I'm an architect, and I have studied inspiring places and spaces in more than 49 countries, which I curated on my platform, Architectural Journeys. Those journeys led me to start ReadTrips.

They also showed me how much access to other people's creations, stories and cultures shapes the way we learn. My daily goal is helping students reach those people, by visiting creative start-ups, firms, factories, labs, galleries, museums, universities and other institutions, to give them that anchoring moment in their studies.

It might be Swahili markets in Tanga, Picasso's Barcelona, the engineering of the Ruhr Valley or wood craftsmanship in Nagoya. Wherever it is, I work with teachers to design the visit around what their students are learning.

A note on how we work

We are an independent company and take on a limited number of trips each year, so each gets full attention. Our standard group is 19 students. Demand for the strongest trips is high, so we suggest starting 6 to 9 months ahead.
