Overview
This trip traces the history, engineering, and future of the automobile across two of Europe's great automotive heartlands, Bavaria and Italy's Motor Valley.
In Munich, students visit BMW Welt and the BMW Museum, tracing a century of automotive design, then spend time at the Technical University of Munich, one of Europe's leading engineering schools, to see how today's automotive engineers are trained. In Ingolstadt, the Audi Forum and museo mobile show how a single company's design philosophy has evolved across generations of cars.
The trip continues into Italy's Motor Valley, a region built almost entirely around automotive craft and engineering. In Modena, students visit the Museo Enzo Ferrari and the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia's “Enzo Ferrari” Department of Engineering, named for the man himself, where automotive engineering is taught in the region that built his legend. In Sant'Agata Bolognese, students tour the Lamborghini Museum and factory, and in Bologna, the Ducati Museum traces the engineering of motorcycles alongside cars.
Throughout, students engage with hands-on workshops connecting classroom engineering to the production line.
