Overview
The trip
Morocco's art grew where the Atlantic, the Mediterranean and the Sahara meet, and painters from Delacroix to Matisse came to Tangier for its light.
In Tangier, students visit the Kasbah and its museum, trace Delacroix, who visited in 1832, and Matisse, who painted here in 1912 and 1913. In Chefchaouen, the blue-washed town shows how colour shapes a place. In Fez, they watch craftspeople at work in the medina's tanneries, ceramic and zellige workshops, and study the geometric patterns and calligraphy of the Bou Inania Madrasa. They spend a night in a desert camp at Merzouga, then in Marrakech visit the Majorelle Garden and the Yves Saint Laurent Museum.
