Overview

The trip

London's West End and National Theatre open their doors to students on this performing arts trip.

Students go behind the scenes at the National Theatre and join workshops connected to current West End productions, seeing how a live show comes together from rehearsal to performance. Visits to the V&A and Tate connect performing arts to the wider visual arts and design world, and a drama workshop or poetry session, shaped around your group, gives students hands-on practice rather than a passive tour.

Learning outcomes

What students gain

Students will be able to:

  • Describe how a live theatre production moves from rehearsal to performance
  • Connect a workshop technique (drama, poetry or music) to their own practical skills
  • Discuss how a museum collection, such as the V&A's, documents the history of performance and design
  • Reflect on a specific West End or National Theatre production as a case study in dramatic craft
