Overview

The trip

The world's largest democracy is also home to several of the world's major faiths.

In Delhi, students visit Gandhi Smriti, where Gandhi spent his final days, and see how a democracy of 1.4 billion people is governed. In Varanasi, one of the world's oldest living cities, students watch the rituals on the Ganges and visit nearby Sarnath, where the Buddha gave his first sermon. In Mumbai, Mani Bhavan, Gandhi's base in the city for many years, shows how an idea of nonviolent resistance grew into a national movement.
